Dr Crokes 1-14 Legion 1-11
The East Kerry Senior League, sponsored by Frank Doran Safeguard Security, was brought to completion for this year, with an exciting and entertaining game between neighbouring Dr Crokes and Legion in the Division 1 Final, last Saturday evening in Fitzgerald Stadium.
Dr Crokes got off to a dream start with a Daithi Casey goal in the opening minute and went on to build a 1-04 to nil lead in the first 6 minutes, the points from the boot of Brian Looney and Micheal Burns (3). Legion turned a great save from a Dr Crokes goal shot, into attack and Kevin Breen registered Legions first score with a well taken point, on the tenth minute. Conor Keane quickly followed with a point from play and the introduction of Legion’s Aidan Slattery and Andy O’ Sullivan helped to change the momentum of the game. Play varied from end to end and there were a scatter of points from both sides in the remainder of the half, with Daithi Casey scoring 3 impressive points for Dr Crokes while Conor Keane(2), David O’ Sullivan and Kieran Slattery narrowing the margin to five points with some lovely points for Legion. In the last minute of the half, Chirs Brady increased the Dr Crokes lead to six points, with a pointed free. Score at the break: Dr Crokes 1-08 Legion 0-05.
On resumption, Legion narrowed the gap to a single score, within two minutes, with a fast move up-field that ended with Conor Keane slotting the ball to the back of the net. The sides traded points, Kieran Slattery on target for Legion and Jordan Kiely for Dr Crokes. Three unanswered Legion points (David O’Sullivan (2), Jamie O’Sullivan) levelled the scores at the end of the third quarter, 1-09 a piece, and when Legion went a point ahead from a David O’ Sullivan point from play, the momentum seemed to be with the Dereen side. However, Dr Crokes substitutions combined with an increase in intensity, meant that the Lewis road side largely dominated the remainder of the game, notching up 5 points(Tony Brosnan (2), Brian Looney, Chris Brady and a long distance free by Daithi Casey) to a single point for Legion and Dr Crokes ran out winners with a three point margin. Final score; Dr Crokes 1-14 Legion 1-11.
