Fossa 1-12 Rathmore 0-11
The East Kerry calendar of fixtures were completed last Sunday in Listry with a cracking game between Fossa and Rathmore Minors, in the East Kerry Minor Division 2 Championship Final, sponsored by The Tatler Jack. Both goal keepers, Maurice Prendeville for Fossa and Shane O’ Callaghan for Rathmore, made wonderful saves, denying what appeared to be certain goals. There were wonderful points scored from distance and difficult angles, some great high fielding and there was good defence work from both sides.
Fossa got off to a dream start with a well taken goal eight minutes into the game, when Paudie Devane, tapped the ball into the net from a lovely cross by Paudie Clifford. Rathmore had periods of dominance and narrowed the margin to two points a couple of times in the first half and to the minimum twenty four minutes into the game. However, Fossa notched up two points without reply leaving the half time score: Fossa 1-06 Rathmore 0-06.
The third quarter was dominated by Fossa who increased their lead to five points, 1-09 to 0-07 with 15 minutes remaining and the outcome seemed beyond doubt. However, Rathmore, showing great skill and determination, again reduced the margin to a single point, with six minutes remaining, scoring three frees and a point from play. However, it was Fossa who found the target in the last minutes of the game and notched up three unanswered points to run out winners after an exciting skilful and sporting game. Final score Fossa 1-12 Rathmore 0-11.
