We extend deepest sympathy to the Sheehan Family, relatives and friends and to Dr Crokes C.L.G. on the passing away of Donal (Donie) Sheehan R.I.P.
Vice President of East Kerry GAA, a legend in Dr. Crokes, East Kerry and County circles and a well known and respected Killarney pharmacist, Donie gave a lifetime of service to the GAA.
Donie was the Chairman of Dr Crokes Club for nearly 20 years. He served as delegate for Dr Crokes to East Kerry and for 50 years was their County Board delegate.
Prior to the initiation of the East Kerry Senior Championship, Dr. O’Donoghue Cup competition, Donie refereed an East Kerry final won by Listry.
Donie was trainer with the East Kerry Senior team that reached 6 County Finals in the 1960s/70s and won the inaugural All Ireland Club Championship in 1971.
He was a selector with Kerry teams at all levels, including the Kerry Senior All Ireland side with Mick O’Dwyer in 1975.
A generous sponsor, Donie Sheehan presented the Corn Ui Siochain, generally known as the Sheehan Cup, to East Kerry GAA in 1965, at the request of the then Board Chairman, the late Brendan Walsh. East Kerry had few Cups/Trophies in the 1960’s and Brendy asked Donie to provide a Cup for the Minor competition. At the request of East Kerry, Donie kindly presented the Cup to the Joint captains of the 2017 Minor League winning team, Dr Crokes’ joint captains Mark Fitzgerald and James Kelly.
A legend in Dr Crokes, East Kerry and County circles, Donie will be greatly missed. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis
