For the sixth consecutive year East Kerry clubs have brought the highest accolades to be achieved in Scór back to the county. In Scór na n-Óg, Kilcummin were successful in the Set Dancing having last been successful in this category in 2002.
In Scór Sinsear, Spa continue to dominate the Set Dancing, making it four in row of All Ireland titles in 2007. Spa also became champions in the Figure Dancing. This is the second time they have won the double dancing titles, the previous time being 2004. Rathmore kept the flag flying in the Question Time, winning their second All Ireland in this keen competition, winning it last in 1995, so four All Ireland titles to East Kerry is to be highly commended. While this success is admirable for the clubs involved, let’s not forget all the other clubs who are making a huge contribution to Scór in East Kerry. The emphasis on Scór should not be about winning but on participating and enjoying the experience. All competitors efforts are to be praised whether they compete in the first round or the final rounds.
This year's Scór season started with a great sadness, due to the untimely death of a great Scór stalwart, Kathleen O’ Mahoney, Listry R.I.P. Kathleen was a hard working Scór officer for the Listry club and right up to the time of her death she was making sure that Listry would be represented in Scór this year. She will always be remembered for her kind and gentle nature and she has left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by all but especially by her husband Sean, daughters, Ciara and Aoife, her mother Kathleen, and sisters Noreen and Geraldine.
Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam uasal.
Ann Mangan. E. K. Scór Officer.

BY ANN MANGAN, EAST KERRY BOARD SCOR OFFICER
The GAA of course is much more than a sporting
organisation. It promotes our games, but it also embraces the cultural
aspect of Irish Life. Since the birth of Scor in 1969, our Clubs
have become involved in promoting our culture in an enjoyable manner
through the medium of Scor. The organisation has been uniquely successful
in instilling into every boy and girl a sense of place and a deep
and lasting pride in that special place, their Club. Scor affords
all GAA clubs the opportunity to give public expression to their
affection for their own area and to promote the core values of the
organisation to which they belong. It provides a platform to show
their talents, to derive enjoyment from doing so and at the same
time, providing delightful entertainment to thousands throughout
the country. The element of competition, the opportunity to represent
and bring honour to your club, county and province, elevates the
whole experience to a different realm. The club and county colours
so proudly displayed, the electric atmosphere and the welcoming
cheers are obvious signs that Scor is a fundamental part of that
pride that we all have in our roots and affinity we have to our
own club.
As we enjoy the entertainment and excitement generated
at Scor competitions, it causes one to reflect on what is being
missed by Clubs who fail to make a serious effort to become involved
in Scor. What a disservice they are doing to their own members!
In East Kerry we are fortunate that 99% of clubs
see the value of Scor for their members. All clubs have elected
their own Scor Officers who work tirelessly in having their clubs
represented at the East Kerry finals and, in some cases, all the
way to All Ireland success!
For Scor purposes, East Kerry consists of ten clubs,
with the other three, Currow, Scartaglen and Cordal, participating
in the Castleisland District.
Hat Trick of All Ireland Senior Scór titles for East Kerry in 2007
Spa (Figure Dance and Set Dance) and Rathmore in the Question Time brought three more All Ireland titles to Kerry and East Kerry at the All Ireland Scór sinsir finals in the INEC at The Gleneagle Hotel on Saturday evening last. Spare a thought however for Glenflesk who performed excellently in the Instrumental Music only to lose out to Erins Hope from Dublin who are the GAA club in St Patrick’s teacher training College.
Spa Set Dancers completed a 4-in-row of titles and indeed the last five titles have come to East Kerry as Glenflesk preceded the winners as champions in 2003. Dancing first, they beat off opposition from Westmeath (Bunbrosna), Roscommon (St Dominicks) and Armagh (Carrickruppin) with David Rea, a new addition to the line up this year, winning his first medal.
The Figure Dancers are back as champions after a two year break, and four of their line up were winning their first medals, namely Ann Marie and Sineád Nelligan, Joanne O’Connor and Sheree Murphy. They were up against the usual opposition from Tyrone (Omagh St Endas), Wexford (Oylgate-Glenbrien), and Glencar-Manorhamilton from Leitrim.
Sisters, Máireád and Tríona Mangan along with Patricia Moynihan did the double on the night and were each winning their eighth national medal. Spa previously did the dancing double in 2004.
Perseverance paid off handsomely for the Question Time team of John O’Sullivan, Tony Moynihan and Dan O’Connor from Rathmore who won a cliff-hanger by two marks having been eight marks ahead at one stage. Tony and John were members of the last Rathmore team to win the title in 1995, while they also tasted the pangs of defeat in the finals of 1994 and 1997. They faced strong opposition from Cornafean (Cavan) and Legan (Longford) both of whom had won the title on two previous occasions. Bornacoola from Leitrim were the Connaught standard bearers.
Congratulations to all concerned.
All Ireland Scór na nÓg 2007 Success for Kilcummin Set Dancers
Well Kilcummin junior Set Dancers covered themselves in glory in Athlone on Saturday last when capturing the All Ireland Scór na n-Óg title. Trained by Adrian McCarthy and dancing the Roscommon Lancers they were first on stage and set down a marker which the best of the other provincial representatives, Abbey-Knockmoy (Galway), St Vincents (Longford) and Crosserlough (Cavan) could not match. So congratulations to Niall Crowley, Gavin O’Leary, Grace O’Riordan, Marie O’Leary, Colin O’Riordan, Orla Bruton, Christopher Foley and Marie Sheehan. There was no luck for the Glenflesk’s Ballad Group, or Solo Singer Michelle O’Callaghan who was going for a second title in a row. “Kilcummin performed fantastically, there was really no doubt as to who was going to win it” remarked East Kerry Board Scór officer, Ann Mangan. “The standard in the Ballad Group was unbelievable, Glenflesk were tremendous and were unlucky to lose out - it must have been very close. There was also a very high standard in the Solo Singing - it is particularly hard to put two titles back to back” she continued. It is the third year in a row that All Ireland titles have come to the Division in Scór na n-Óg.
Congratulations also to the successful Beaufort Question Time team.
Scór Na n-Óg 2007
2007 E.K. Scór Na n-Óg Finals
Scór na nÓg, 06-07, (Sponsored by Killarney Credit Union) was a memorable occasion, with the final being run over two nights and seeing the re-entry of the Legion Club after many years absence in this competition. It is very heartening to see the hard work by parents, teachers and club Scór officers. Legion and Glenflesk entered all eight items – no mean achievement. As usual the standard was extremely high and many of the non-prize winners would do us proud in an all-Ireland final. Congratulations to every boy and girl that competed and may you all reap the rewards of your distinguished talents in the years ahead.
Glenflesk won the best overall club winning the Figure Dancing, Ballad Group, Solo Singing (Michelle O'Callaghan), Recitation and Novelty Act, Rathmore won the Question Time and Gneeveguilla were victorious in the Instrumental Music.
