Scor Sinsir
Pride of place this week in East Kerry goes to the Spa club and their dancers that lifted a who won the All Ireland Scór Sinsir title for Figure dancing at The INEC In Killarney on last Saturday. That win is Spa’s 5th All Ireland Title in figure dancing and it matches the five All-Irelands they already hold in Set dancing, which is a unique and outstanding achievement for the Spa club.
The Spa dancers were:- Sinead Cronin, Aine Keneally, Kirsti Landers, Mairead Mangan, Triona Mangan, Aine Nelligan, Sinead Nelligan, and Joanne O’Connor. It takes great dedication, training and commitment to win an All-Ireland in any competition and all East Kerry Gaels are truly proud of the achievements of this group of girls and their hard working teachers and mentors.
As well as the Spa figure dancers, East Kerry had two other representatives who acquitted themselves with distinction. Ray O’Sullivan of Spa was reciting his own composition “Penalty Points “ and the Glenflesk Music group of Padraig Creedon, Rosie Healy, Michael McGillycuddy, Mary O’Callaghan and Martina O’Neill, gave of their best on the day. In the not too distant future we may see them too achieve an All-Ireland.
Kilcummin win in Junior League
Kilcummin 1-17 Spa 0-4
A stronger fitter Kilcummin side completely overran a spirited Spa side in the East Kerry Junior League round 3 game played at Spa on Tuesday evening. Kilcummin held the aces in most positions and were particularly dominant in the key positions. Full back John Herlihy, centre back John O’Keeffe and the midfield pair of Pat O’Donoghue and Ritchie O’Connor never allowed the Spa side to raise any serious challenge. Up front, centre forward Robert Casey dictated affairs for a good forward division which saw wing forward Michael O’Shea and corner forward Ger Sheahan particularly effective. Spa had great triers in full back Shane Devane, centre back Michael Paul Doherty, midfielder Kieran Herlihy while up front Sean Casey and Ryan Carroll tried valiantly to get to grips with a tenacious Kilcummin defence.
It was centre back Michael Paul Doherty that got Spa off to a good start when he kicked over a good point for Spa. Kilcummin midfielder Pat O’Donoghue punched an equaliser in the sixth minute. Good combination between Sean Casey and full forward Dan Doonan enabled corner forward Francis O’Riordan register Spa’s second point and they led briefly with ten minutes gone. However, this was Spa’s last score of the half as the Kilcummin squad took control in most quarters. Four points from wing forwar Michael O’Shea put Kilcummin 0-5 to 0-2 ahead after twenty minutes. Diarmuid O’Donoghue added two more before a poor Spa kickout allowed Ger Sheehan in for a simple left footed tap over. Full forward Diarmuid O’Donoghue brought the half to a close with a punched point leaving the half time score Kilcummin 0-9 Spa 0-2.
On the resumption, matters continued to deteriorate for the Spa men as T J Moriarty and Ger Sheehan increased the Kilcummin score to 0-11. Ten minutes in saw midfielder Kieran Herlihy add a point for Spa. In a sweeping Kilcummin movement Pat O’Donoghue and Robert Casey worked the ball to Ger Sheehan for a good score. On the twentieth minute, midfielder Ritchie O’Connor made it 0-13 to 0-3 in favour of Kilcummin. The final ten minutes saw Michael P Doherty record Spa’s final point while Kilcummin continued to press forward for more scores. The only goal of the game came from a Robert Casey overhead flick which Ger Sheehan collected and slipped to the inrushing Ritchie O’Connor who made no mistake bringing the score to 1-14 to 0-4 in favour of the Kilcummin men. The last scores for Kilcummin came from T J Moriarty, and two from substitute Ian O’Leary – one off each foot. Final score Kilcummin 1-17 Spa 0-4.

However, Currow has a game in hand and their battle with Kilcummin may prove the key fixture of the league.
In Division 2, Glenflesk is the only team on full points from two games. They are followed in the table by Legion, Firies and Scartaglen.
