Back to Back Under 21 titles for Rathmore
Rathmore 1-15, Legion 1-9
Played in ideal summer conditions at Kilcummin on Thursday last, Rathmore’s greater accuracy in from of goal won them the Maurice Mottie O’Donoghue  Cup as East Kerry Under 21 Champions for the second year in succession.  This game was played in exemplary fashion by two very disciplined sides whose entire focus was on playing quality football. Their clubs and mentors are to be congratulated for the respect each side showed to the other. Legion was forced to line out without two of its more influential players – centre back Padraig O’Connor and Shaun Keane. Rathmore’s centre back Conor O’Sullivan carried an injury into the game and was forced to retire early.
Legion excellent full forward James O’Donoghue had the first score on the score board -  a point in the opening attack. Within two minutes the stylish Rathmore corner forward John Moynihan had levelled taking the safer option of a point when many thought he would attempt a goal. But Rathmore didn’t have long to wait for that goal. Midfielder Donal O’Sullivan fetched and delivered to full forward Eoin Lawlor who struck low and true to the corner with his left foot. That goal in the seventh minute was a safety margin for Rathmore for much of the game and try as they did, Legion never recovered from it. George O’Keeffe acted provider for his mid field partner as Donal O Sullivan made it 1-2 to 0-1 after ten minutes. James O’Donoghue added two points for Legion but was denied a goal when Rathmore’s keeper Padraic McCarthy reacted brilliantly to effect a good save. Two points by Rathmore wing forward Mark Reen were cancelled by two from Legion’s David O’Sullivan and Killian Treacy. A patient Rathmore attack started on the right wing by Philip Kelly and Stephen Murphy  saw Mark Reen take the ball at pace from Eoin Lawlor and Reen completed the first half scoring with a fine point to leave the score at half time Rathmore 1-5 Legion 0-5.
Midfielder Donal O’Sullivan extended the Rathmore lead with a pointed free in the opening minute of the second half. Legion responded with a well worked move involving Aiden Slattery, David O’Sullivan and James O’Donoghue who slipped the ball to corner back Sean McCarthy for a good point. John Moynihan (Rathmore) and James O’Donoghue (Legion) swapped points to leave the margin at a goal – 1-7 to 0-7. Rathmore extended the lead to five points with good scores from Paul Reen and John Moynihan. But Legion continued to compete well and were rewarded when full forward James O’Donoghue got inside the defence and shot the ball to the net from an acute angle. That goal reduced the Legion deficit to two points with fifteen minutes remaining – 1-9 to 1-7. However, it was Rathmore that kicked on for victory outscoring the Legion men by six points to two in the final quarter, with points fromMark Reen (3), Paul Murphy, Eoin Lawlor and wing back Eugene O’Connor. Legions two points came from the reliable James O’Donoghue who finished with a personal tally of 1-6.  Final score Rathmore 1-15, Legion 1-9
After the game East Kerry Board Chairman Dermot Griffin presented the Maurice Mottie O’Donoghue Cup to Conor O’Sullivan captain of the victorious Rathmore team.

Kilcummin and Dr Crokes to contest Junior Final Div 1
Kilcummin 0-13 Currow 2-6.

Kilcummin earned a place in the division 1 final of the Patrick Doyle Haulage Junior League when they overcame a gallant Currow team by the narrowest of margins in Farranfore on Tuesday last. Kilcummin dominated midfield for long stretches where Ritchie O’Connor had a fine game. They had men of great physique and ability in vital positions with Robert Casey at centre forward and Diarmuid O’Donoghue full forward showing particularly well. Currow worked hard to get the ball to their inside forwards but here too the Kilcummin back line of Muiris Healy, John Herlihy and Eoin Horan cut out many promising attacks. Kevin Casey, Kevin Daly, Pat Sullivan, Padraig O’Shea and the Flemings Tom and David gave a solid hours performance in the Currow colours and almost snatched victory at the end.
Kilcummin had four points on the board from Mikie Shea, Diarmuid O’Donoghue, Ritchie O’Connor and Robert Casey before Currows Padraig O’Shea opened the Currow account in the fifteenth minute. O’Shea turned provided three minutes later passing to full forward Kevin Moran for the only goal of the half. Kilcummin added five more points before half time from Mikie O’Shea (0-2), Ger Sheahan (0-2) and Ian O’Leary as they outclassed Currow in most areas of play to lead by five points at half time 0-9 to 1-1. Ian O’Leary and Ger Sheahan extended the Kilcummin lead to seven points within three mimnutes of the resumption. Three converted Currow frees by Kevin Daly kept them in touch but it was clear that they would need another goal to be in serious contention. Mikie Shea (Kilcummin) and Michael McCarthy (Currow) swapped points to leave the score 0-12 to 1-5 in favour of Kilcummin with fifteen minutes left. Substitute Kevin Casey came in at full forward for Currow and was a good target man winning vital possession around the square. Kevin Daly reduced the Currow deficit with a point to leave just a goal between the sides with less than ten minutes left. A high ball in to the Currow full forward line was won by Kevin Casey who shot to the net to level the game. In the hectic remaining minutes extra time seemed a distinct possibility as each side missed scoreable chances. Then the Kilcummin full forward Diarmuid O’Donoghue capped a good night’s work with the winning point to send Kilcummin into the final on a score of Kilcummin 0-13 Currow 2-6.
